Liz Harrington (UK, b.1973) is a visual artist working primarily with experimental analogue, alternative and camera-less photographic techniques as well as sculptural forms, text, artist books, moving image and installation.
Her work focuses on the changing nature of environments, particularly those that are fragile or at risk of disappearing. These are often isolated landscapes, coastal areas or rivers and the hidden, unseen aspects within them. She draws on her interests in geomorphology, the study of landforms, how they evolve over time and the processes, such as weathering, erosion and deposition, that shape them. Incorporating a fieldwork like approach to her process of making, she makes site-specific work, exploring, collecting and repeating.
Recent work has taken the photographic darkroom as an environment and site of exploration, incorporating a generative and cyclical approach that includes recovering silver from used photographic fixer. In previous work the environment has played a direct part in the making, such as physically making work in the sea or creating plant-based developers and toners to infuse the work with a sense of place. Combining the alchemy and unpredictability of the photographic with her material interests the resulting works surface through a combination of touch, light, chemistry, atmosphere, time and repetition.

She is a member of the Struck by Light collective (an international group of experimental analogue photographers and artists), the British Art Network (BAN), an alumna of Digswell Arts and works from her studio at Wysing, Cambridgeshire.
